A unique and striking cotton maxi dress with prairie and spooky sensibilities in equal measure! the jagged diagonal print feels like static, or lightning or a circuit board, and the contrasting colourways are cleverly placed to enhance the silhouette - princess seamed, a-line with hip pockets. All seams are edged in crochet lace. Utterly perfect expression of 1970s Scandinavian style.

Kaisu Heikkilä (1918-1992) was a celebrated Finnish fashion designer and clothing entrepreneur. She founded the Tampere-based dress manufacturer Kaisu Heikkilä Oy, operating from 1952 to 1992. The company produced both made to order and ready-to-wear clothing. In the mid-1960s, ready-to-wear clothing production began to become more important. A new factory was completed for the company in the small industrial estate on Kalevantie in Tampere. At the same time, the company's export activities began to pick up, so that by the early 1970s, 70 percent of Kaisu Heikkilä's companies' production went outside Finland, especially to Sweden, Norway, the Federal Republic of Germany and the Soviet Union. Kaisu and Kauko Heikkilä's daughter, Marjatta Heikkilä-Rastas, worked as the company's clothing designer in the 1970s - so probably designed this dress!
